2005 Accomplishments and Highlights

Safety

  • Chapter’s safety staff conducted 527 project safety site evaluations and 170 storm water evaluations.
  • Safety visits and services were provided to 101 different member firms.
  • QUOIN’s Safety, Health and Environmental Services staff had more than 2,181 contacts with members.
  • QUOIN provided on-site company-specific training to 769 contractor member participants.
  • QUOIN delivered more in-house safety training, such as providing the 10-hour OSHA program toc ontractor members at no additional charge for the dues paid, strengthening member values.
  • 113 member firms participated in the May and November Construction Industry Stand Downs for Safety.
  • QUOIN continues to utilize the safety management tool SafetyNet to evaluate individuals’ competency on projects, provide a benchmark for safety and identify trends within the industry.
  • QUOIN continues to promote the OSHA Partnering and the Construction Safety Excellence Awards programs to members.
  • QUOIN developed a general safety checklist and environmental checklist for the industry.
  • QUOIN assisted in providing training for the required Bond Safety Orientation and 10-Hour Training for the Dallas Independent School District.
  • QUOIN revised curriculum for Construction Site Safety modules.
Participation
  • More than 7,967 individuals participated in all member activities and took advantage of our services.
  • More than 2,000 individuals participated in member forums.
  • More than 2,600 individuals participated in special events.
  • More than 2,100 individuals attended safety training classes.
  • 60 college students participated in a total of 250 interviews with representatives of our member firms during an interview day held at QUOIN’s Dallas location.
  • 30 construction faculty from Region V universities participated in events surrounding our Chapter’s Annual Educators Conference.
  • More than 1,000 people participated in professional and leadership development classes.
  • 147 contractor member firms (out of a total of 169) participated in one or more of the Chapter’s services and programs.
  • The Chapter training facilities were used by member firms on 66 occasions.
Publicity
  • QUOIN was featured in the media or in presentations to groups on 40-plus occasions.
  • The Chapter’s Membership Directorywas distributed to over 6,000 individuals.
  • QUOIN produced four quarterly magazines, each covering multiple issues, with a total circulation of over 200,000 with copies mailed to targeted individuals and groups. (The added capability of viewing the magazine online was also added.)
  • QUOIN members have won 60 percent of the Texas Building Branch Outstanding Construction Awards since 2001.
  • QUOIN members have won three National Build America Awards since 2001.
  • QUOIN members have won 10 National Construction Safety Excellence Awards. One individual was named National Superintendent of the Year.
  • The electronic QUOINwatch continues providing members the opportunity to briefly scan critical information—such as updates on new rules and regulations that affect the construction industry, the new Storm Water Phase II Rule and the Contingent Pay Issue, etc.—with the option to just stay updated or read the items in depth at the click of a mouse.
  • QUOIN’s Web site www.quoin.org has had more than two million hits since December 31, 2004.

Leadership

  • Took the lead on numerous local government and environmental issues with positive results for our members (includes representation at various meetings with city and government officials and offering special seminars and programs).
  • Met with numerous congressional, state and local leaders to represent interests of members.
  • Raised $94,000 in new PAC funds for AGC’sTexas Building Branch in Austin.
  • Actively participated in this past year’s legislative session.

Growth & Opportunities

  • Third largest AGC Chapter.
  • Creating value for a group of 820 member firms with 169 contractor members receiving full member benefits. Of the 169 contractor members, 121 are general contractors and 48 are specialty contractors.
  • Broad array of core services, such as safety and training, offered across North Texas.
  • More opportunities for building relationships and meeting new people.
  • Access to a larger staff.

Strength

  • Stronger, single voice representing the industry.
  • Stronger, single focus representing top issues and needs of the industry.
  • Stronger, single image and single purpose representing commercial contractors who are striving to build the “best contractor community in the world.”
  • Continues to work closely with DISD, FWISD and DCCCD on their bond packages.
  • Making a difference in the safety and environmental arenas.
  • Long-term staff with a combined total of 100 years of experience providing quality service to the construction industry.
