About QUOIN :: it's history, vision, mission and objectives

Pursuant to QUOIN's Business Plan for this year, the Chapter’s long-range strategic objectives include the following: To continue to assure success of the organization. To maximize services for individual member growth and long-term member firm success. To increase our political effectiveness.

In January of 2001, a new "chapter" in the lives of both the Dallas/East Texas and Fort Worth AGC's was added. The Dallas/East Texas and Fort Worth AGC chapters merged, creating the new "super" chapter named QUOIN. "QUOIN" symbolizes the unity of two long-standing, successful organizations, the Dallas/East Texas and Fort Worth Chapters. It also symbolizes the coming together of general and specialty contractors for strength, unity, and effective leadership of all contractors, which is the force that will help us "build the best contractor community in the world."
QUOIN serves the needs of all of its members with or without collective bargaining agreements. A leadership team of four officers leads the Chapter, each holding their respective office for one year, and twenty-one other Board members representing the entire membership base consisting of 1411 member firms.
Established in 1924, the Dallas Chapter, Associated General Contractors of America is a full-service construction association with 740 member firms including 140 contractor members (130 general contractors and 10 specialty contractors) and 600 associate members (comprised of specialty contractors, service companies and suppliers).
The Fort Worth Chapter AGC chartered by the Associated General Contractors of America, Inc. was organized in the spring of 1924 and formally chartered on May 28, 1925. From this beginning, just 5 years prior to the Depression of the early 1930's, the Fort Worth Chapter moved forward through those dire days of economic turndown. Seventy-six years later, the Fort Worth chapter boasts a membership of over 400 members.
The East Texas Chapter AGC was chartered by the Associated General Contractors of America, Inc. on December 28, 1949 and began serving the East Texas community. The region is comprised of a diverse base of general contractor firms, specialty contractors, service companies and suppliers providing service to the construction industry. In 1988 the East Texas Chapter AGC merged with the Dallas Chapter and strengthened its base or resources.
QUOIN'S contractor members have put in place over $40 billion of commercial construction since 1981. Included in the portfolios of member firms are every high rise building on the Dallas and Fort Worth skylines including the newest landmark-the American Airlines Center stadium. Other major projects by member firms include the Bass Towers, TXU and Southwestern Bell building. Corporate headquarters for EDS and JCPenney, as well as the corporate complex for Northern Telecom, and GTE.
QUOIN has the area's largest construction industry political action committee contributing over $400,000 to lobbying efforts since its inception in 1970. The Chapter's Education and Research Foundation (now the QUOIN Foundation) has awarded over $350,000 in scholarships to college students in the construction science departments of Region V Universities. Many of these students have since been recruited and employed by our Chapter's member firms.
Through several strategic planning efforts in the last decade, QUOIN has better positioned itself for continued future success and quality growth. This has meant challenging the status quo and looking at new and innovative ways to "stay closer to our members." Most noteworthy in this regard is our transition two years ago from Chapter committees to the very successful Member Forums. These Forums are now providing a place for members to come together and explore ways to resolve mutual issues.
With the merger, the metroplex is now one market (members work throughout the area), strengthening member services, while enhancing our clout and influence. Both Chapters combined have over 150 years of history and experience, the new association will take the "best of the best" from each Chapter and build on the Chapters' strengths, strengthening or eliminating any weaknesses and build an extraordinary new Chapter.
Members are located throughout the North and East Texas areas and QUOIN'S membership accounts for billions of dollars of construction work in North and East Texas. QUOIN serves the construction industry in the following Texas counties: Anderson, Angelina, Bowie, Camp, Cass, Cherokee, Collin, Cooke, Dallas, Delta, Denton, Ellis, Erath, Fannin, Franklin, Grayson, Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Hood, Hopkins, Hunt, Jack, Johnson, Kaufman, Lamar, Marion, Montague, Morris, Nacogdoches, Navarro, Palo Pinto, Panola, Parker, Rains, Red River, Rockwall, Rusk, San Augustine, Shelby, Smith, Summerville, Tarrant, Titus, Upshur, Van Zandt, Wise, and Wood.

Requirements All Contractor, Industry and Subscriber Members are automatically affiliated with Associated General Contractors of America. All members who are General Contractors are considered Members of AGCA. All Industry and Subscriber members of this Chapter are called National Associate Members of AGCA. As members of AGCA, QUOIN members may take advantage of the services offered by National that compliment the services offered locally.

Commitment to Growth
According to our Chapter’s By-Laws, every qualified Contractor should be enrolled as a member of the Association to further the Association’s objective of improving the quality of the work services and the professional standing of Contractors. The Officers and Directors of the Chapter are expected to lead in an effort to attain this goal and need to demonstrate positive steps in promoting strong and steady membership growth. Membership in QUOIN is open to all qualified firms without discrimination because of the race, color, ethnic origin, creed or gender of its principals or employees.
